New Wave of Renewables Investment
The money has been awarded in the second round of the Wave & Tidal Energy: Research, Development & Demonstration Support [“WATERS”] funding by the Scottish Executive , designed to allow Scottish renewable energy developers and supply chain firms to expand their position in the international marine energy market.
Among the projects to receive funding are a two-megawatt SR 2000 commercial-scale floating tidal turbine off Orkney, six wave energy converters and a company developing a quarter-scale prototype twin-turbine tidal energy converter.
Scottish waters offer amongst the most concentrated wave and tidal resources in the world and the challenge of implementing renewable technology in these conditions has led to Scottish companies being at the forefront of technical development.
