Washing Machine Recall
Whirlpool are recalling over 1/2 a million washing machines due to a potential risk of fire. The recall affects certain Hotpoint and Indesit models manufactured between 2014 and 2018.
The safety issue concerns the door lock system on certain models. Whirlpool say that when the heating element in the washing machine is activated, in very rare cases a component in the door lock system can overheat, which can pose a risk of fire.
Whirlpool have issued a list of the models affected. To check the list click here. The model number can usually be found on a label attached to the machine behind the door.
Whirlpool is advising owners of its fire-risk washing machines to avoid all risk associated with the affected models by unplugging their washing machines when not using them. Whirlpool also say that if the appliance continues to be used, it should only be used with cold water cycles of 20 degrees or lower as this significantly reduces the risk.
This is an important message and should not be overlooked. If you are occupying a managed property and have any concerns you should contact either your landlord or your agent as soon as possible. Your prompt action could help avert a potential disaster.
