Ballater – Approx 2 miles

Overlooked by Craigendarroch Hill, Ballater includes a wide range of coffee shops, restaurants, specialist and everyday shopping. Such is Balmoral’s association with the village, many of the local shops bear the Royal Warrant of the Queen or Prince of Wales. The restored B listed railway station with historical connections to Queen Victoria and the Royal Family, now provides a unique dining experience, visitor centre and library. With a regular bus service providing transport to both Braemar and Aberdeen along Deeside, primary schooling is catered for within Ballater, while secondary education is at Aboyne Academy.

Braemar – Approx 15 miles

Braemar is a thriving village known for its world famous Gathering every September, usually attended by Her Majesty The Queen. Amenities include a selection of independent shops, chemist, Co-op store with post office, Farquharson’s Bar and Kitchen and the Fife Arms Hotel and Spa, home to the Flying Stag pub. There is a primary school in Braemar, with secondary education at Aboyne Academy.

Aberdeen – Approx 42 miles

Aberdeen provides all the services of a major city, including business, leisure and health facilities, theatres and cinemas, restaurants and a wide range of shops. There is private schooling including Robert Gordon’s College, St Margaret’s and Albyn, as well as the International school at Pitfodels. There are two universities and colleges of further education. The Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route now provides a quicker commute to areas north and south of the city centre, including Aberdeen International Airport. Within Aberdeen there are regular train services, including an overnight train to King’s Cross London.
